The Minuteman Missile was erected in September 1967 at the Main Gate upon entry into the Newark Air Force Base. For almost 30 years it stood tall and became the ICON and a symbol of great accomplishments for all that served. With the missile now dismantled and moved North to another location, many feel it's time to erect a permanent monument as a symbol that would perpetuate the history and heritage of the former Center. The Monument once created and a suitable permanent site selected would be dedicated to all former civilian, military and contractor employees.
NAFB/AGMC Reunions is registered with the State of Ohio as a non-profit organization. As such one must designate an appropriate recipient or benefactor for its potential excesses and accumulation of future assets.
Hence, many have considered that a Permanent Memorial might serve as an appropriate and suitable fund objective to replace the former Center Monument.
What do you think?
Sound off and let your thoughts be known.
We need your input!!!
THE FOUNDATION FUND PERSPECTIVE: The Foundation will be established with the objective of creating a permanent fund from which a permanent memorial may be financed.
1. Fund resources will be derived from various fund raising events and from solicitation of donations.2. A Foundation Fund Committee will be established and consist of volunteers who formerly served at NAFB.
3. A Memorial Design Contest will be conducted with a cash award to the winner.
