NEWS FLASH MESSAGE Subject: NARFE TO HEAR ABOUT HEALTH CARE AND FORMER NAFB Members of Chapter 310 of the National Association of Federal Employees (NARFE) will hear about Newark Health Imaging at their next monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 11th. Mr. Kevin Valis who is the center’s Director of Facility Operations will present the program and will talk about the most advanced and highest quality diagnostic services available to Licking County residents. Also scheduled to address the membership is Mr. Earl Bodem who will talk about a proposed 40th anniversary celebration of the former Newark Air Force Base. In 1956, Mr. Bodem was a Program Manager and was responsible for designating all Specialized Repair Facilities within the command. At that time, he proposed a Specialized Repair Facility for Inertial Guidance be established and was designated as Program Manager to establish such a facility. In 1957, he made a nationwide search for a suitable location and found Air Force Plant 48, which was located in Heath, Ohio. He convinced the command that Heath was the best location available and it was accepted by the Air Force as a repair facility. The base officially opened as an Air Force repair facility in 1962 and for the next 34 years developed a worldwide reputation for its high quality work. Mr. Bodem came to the base and became the Director of Plans and Management in 1963. He retired in 1978 after serving 38 years of federal service, all in the Air Force Logistics Command. The meeting will be held
at Miller’s Essenplaz on East Main Street in Newark. Seating starts at
5:30 p.m. with dinner at 5:45. Mr. Valis will speak at 6:30, followed by
a business meeting, with Mr. Bodem speaking at the end of the meeting.
