ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER        by Editor.....

OUR  APOLOGY

We're sorry for the delay in publishing Issue no. 3 of this Web Site Alumni Newsletter.  In fact we have afforded very little of our time to the Web Page in general for the past few months.  The only explanation is that we too have been caught up in the changes and day to day activities brought about by American War on Terrorism.
In this issue we have spent considerable time trying to capture some of those disbelieving tragedies that occurred on that memorable day of September 11th.  At approximately 8:30 a.m. on that unthinkable morning my wife, Shirley, and I were traveling on our way from our summer home on Catawba Island, Ohio to Newark.  I had a speaking engagement that very evening to talk to the Newark Chapter 10 National Association of Retired Federal Employees about plans for a forthcoming former Newark Air Force Base 40th Anniversary Celebration.  At the half way point of our journey, Mansfield, a special announcement came over our car radio that an airplane had crashed into the World Trade Center Tower.  Of course, very little was known by the announcer at the time of the first message.  But, within 15 minutes the announcers voice grew into an emotional, excitable pitch as he described the 2nd airline crash into the other Twin Towers.
Thus, began for all of us a day that will live as much in our memory as December 7th, 1941.  As I listened and watched to the horrific events that have followed I decided to devote a part of this issue to memorializing this day and to the patriotism that is necessary by all of us to restore the many precious freedoms we all have enjoyed in our American Way of Life.  To follow the trend of this thought a bit further we have noted that plans were already underway this past summer/fall and continuing for a 40th COATC/AGMC Anniversary to be held in the fall 2002.
With the tragedy that has occurred, a more comprehensive patriotic celebration is now being considered that would ear mark this September day of history.  At this venue it is planned that the event would be named City of Heath American Patriotism Week to begin on the 11th September and end with the COATC/AGMC 40th Anniversary Patriotic festival to be held on Saturday 21st September 2002.  The American Patriotism Week schedule of events being considered are as follows:

*  Patriotic Mall Display (Public Schools)
*  Kiwanis American Patriotism Breakfast
*  American War History Display (location to be selected)
*  Concert by USA Military Band (time & place to be selected)
*  Community Home and Business Patriotic Decorating Contest
*  Patriotic Speakers Bureau and Poster Contest for Public Schools
*  American Patriotism Week Veterans Service (time & place to be selected)
*  COATC/AGMC 40th Anniversary Patriotic Festival (all day event, open to public)
